I recieved my review and the amount of my entitlement has increased. I have been on the benefit since 1992. and it says the award is 'indefinite' what does that mean?
Does that mean i still have to look forward to all the stress of these reviews that people are having to suffer?
hello friend,i dont want to alarm you in any way,but indefinate now means nothing,i think most people with hiv/aids had indefinate entitlement, now it has all changed,i have just gone through this ordeal, but now it has been reduced to three years...hope this helps...regards
It means nothing I was on DLA for life to start off with when i was first diagnosed under a DS15 00 report, my viral load was 550000 and my dc4 30, was given a few months to live
Few years later they changed it to indefinitely and on the 17 th December, week before Christmas, received a review letter, few weeks later they sent out new claim forms
Febuary 2008 was rewared Middle Care and Low Mobility until 5 th Febuary 2011
I appealed for an oral hearing, waited for weeks, got all my evidance to back my claim up, they contacted my consulant, GP, CPN and support workers
25 th June 2008 went for the appeal and I very nealry lost my middle rate for care
I took a support worker with me and a director of an HIV support centre for support, they answered questions as well as myself
Am glad that I brought my mobility car as they would of taking that away, I have to travel over 22 miles for my HIV treatment, and pick up my medications
I live over 2 miles away from a rail station and have no direct bus route to where I have to go
If I did get a train, still have to go to the hospiltal which is about 3 miles away from the rail station
Hope noone else has to go what I have gone through over the past through months as it has been very stressfal
I am sorry to read about your situation and appeal.
On this main question. At the moment it has no definition it seems. It is kept deliberately vague. I have a complaint in with the DWP at the moment as I have asked for clarification on this. I was told in my last call that my claim was "for Life" that was a few months ago.
When or if I get a response I will post it. I know this is a question that we would all like to have an answer to.
Thank you to the last poster for his story.
John.
I have bi-polar and under the care of a psyciatrist since 1992. I recieve the lower rate care component and the lower rate mobility component of DLA. How am I likely to be affected by the forthcoming benefit cuts
TCell Benefits Forums covers the various benefit entitlements and changes we know about. UK Legislation is due and we cannot predict what it might bring.
You will be affected with changes to DLA which its believed there will be a new assessment and all claims will be subject to review towards the end of this parliamentary session 2013-14.
If you get Housing/Council Tax Benefit, Income Support, Incapacity Benefit or Disability Premiums there are changes that are vast but are covered in the Spending Review Forum http://benefits.tcell.org.uk/forums-keywords/benefits/general-news-information-ie-dwp-government-etc/comprehensive-spending
We are not a welfare advice service, in that we cannot give full and proper answers to specific situations. Resources and time as well as the personnel details required from individuals prohibt this.
Therefore I would strongly recommend that you approach the Citizens Advice Bureau and ensure you give them the full details of your benefits and situation so they can give you the advice you need for your personal situation.
Thank you for your reply.

The DWP so far indicate that they can review any benefit at any time to ensure you are getting the entitlement you are supposed to. They will not thus far be drawn on a more formal definition. I await a response where I have asked for this.
CONGRATS on your increase. Nice to see it working to the benefit of individuals for a change.
