I am currently going through my DLA renewal. I filled all the from in in precise detail, and the Senior Clinical Nurse in charge of my clinic i attend filled in the section for the person who knows you best. I waited several weeks and then received a letter from the DWP saying they were now asking my Consultant for a medical report. I feel like people in our situation are unfairly treated, given my health problems i feel that i have got a long drawn out battle ahead of me to keep my current awards at their present level. I was originally awared HRM/HRC in 2005, as i was diagnosed with HIV with AIDS defining illness's. I have a hard enough day to day life, severe mobility problems, chronic depression and constant diarrhoea and K/S marks which come and go, repeated episodes of PCP to name a few. I have been on medication for 3 yrs, as i was diagnosed very late. When i first got my blood results they were over 1,000,000 for the viral load-but they have managed to suppress this to below 50 copies, and the CD4 count was 8-now it hovers around 150-250 mark, which has taken 3 yrs to acheive. Every time another infection comes along it knocks the CD4 count right down again, and it takes months for it to recover again. I spoke to my Consultant prior to him filling in my report for the DWP, and he basically says that is is like a lottery as to whether you get any money awarded these days-this worries me a great deal, although he will fill the report in explaining everything honestly and his views on my long term outlook. My consultant has already told me that my prognosis is poor, with no real improvement expected in the future, which i live with and accept. If i get a rediculously low award on both care and mobility, i will go straight to oral appeal, and not give up on it.
Hi John and everyone. I recieved my award letter this morning-HRC/HRM indefinate. I can now get on with things and the big black cloud of the DWP hanging over me has gone away.
Am really pleased for you.
Thanks for getting back to us to let us know.
John.

Thank you for sharing this. It is part of the process. That in all cases. They will request a medical report from your doctor before making a decision. If you get an adverse decision you can ask for a re-review pending an oral appeal. Oral appeal is probably the best avenue to go down.
I am very encouraged by your approach. With all that you deal with on a daily basis. I very much admire the fact you are prepared to deal with your issues.
Know that we are actively campaigning to raise the issues you cover. If I can help please feel free to email me at john@hivbenefits.co.uk .
Good luck & I hope that you get a decision soon.
John.
